On Saturday June 6, our goal was to complete as much of the plaster work as
possible and get the street in place.
As it turned out, we did have time to get into some painting. The retaining
wall was painted, and much of the plaster hills were done as well. No grass
yet on the hills, but the tree stumps were set in place.
We started with the grass in the flat areas. This area is between the tracks in the front of the layout. We used plenty of glue to make sure the grass and bushes stay in place.
We did get paint on the rocks in the deep cut. Pat Harriman, Co-Chair of the
98 Kansas City Heartland Express Convention, gave us a helping hand with the
India Ink. If you make it to Kansas City in July, his layout is on tour. Also,
see the article in the July 1998 Model Railroad Craftsman (Shelter Bay Railway
Co.)
On Saturday, June 13, more buildings were done and the street was ramped up
to meet the grade crossing.
This is the pink hill, now plastered, painted and covered with earth and grass.
Here is the main town area, now with barn, church, and the grain elevator
in the background.
Here is the overall effect, from the other direction. The space in the foreground
is for the stockyard. A section of the road between the grade crossings needs
to be installed, and the hill behind the farmhouse needs to be expanded and
finished. At the far end, the depot is not in yet. Also, the hill separating
the siding from the main line has no grass.
